Dr. Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković at the conference of the Society for Romanian Studies

The Society for Romanian Studies celebrated 50 years of existence this year and organized an international conference entitled “Voices and silences. 50 years of the Society for Romanian Studies”. The conference was held between 29 and 31 May 2025 at the Faculty of European Studies of the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and was attended by more than 250 participants from all over the world.

Dr. Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković, Principal Research Fellow of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, participated in this international conference with a presentation entitled “Endangered ecolinguistic landscapes in Eastern Serbia: Women’s Discourses” within the panel “Feminine discourse. With-between-about women. Anthropological/ ethnological and historical perspectives”. Dr. Sorescu-Marinković also moderated the panel “Framing Identities: Representation, Stereotypes, and Subversion in Romanian and Eastern European Cinema”.

Dr. Sorescu-Marinković’s book “The Vlachs of Eastern Serbia: Language and Society” (co-author: Dr. Monica Huțanu), published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2023, was presented and discussed during a dedicated book panel of the conference.
