Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković holds a BA and МА degree from the Faculty of Letters, History, Philosophy and Theology of the University of Timisoara, and a PhD degree from the “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca (Romani). She worked as a teaching assistant at the Department for Romanian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, and since 2006 she has been employed at the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA. She is a member of the scientific committee of the Balkan History Association, as well as the following scientific bodies: Ethnological Sciences Association of Romania, Association for the Study of Nationalities, Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies. She is a member of the international editorial board of the journal of the Association for the History of the Balkans “Hyperborea”, of the journal of the Institute for Balkan Studies “Balcanica”, and a member of the advisory board of the journal “Balcanica Posnaniensia. Acta et studia”. In 2011, she was awarded the Marian Madison Award for her contribution to Roma studies.

Fields of research: sociolinguistics, ecolinguistics, anthropological linguistics, Romance studies, folklore, migrations, media studies.

Research topics: language, folklore and migrations of Romanian-speaking communities in the Balkans (Romanians, Megleno-Romanians, Bayash, Vlachs of Eastern Serbia), linguistic landscape of border regions, endangered languages in the Balkans, Yugoslav television in socialist Romania.
