15th International Conference on Romani Linguistics

The 15th International Conference on Romani Linguistics (ICRL15) took place at the State University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), Italy, on September 13 and 14, 2023.

The researchers of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, Mirjana Mirić, research associate, and Svetlana Ćirković, senior research associate, participated in the conference with two papers entitled “The distribution of the definite article and other determiners in Gurbet Romani in Eastern Serbia: a quantitative corpus-based study” (Mirić) and “Non-argumental use of the dative of personal and reflexive pronouns in Gurbet Romani in Eastern Serbia” (Ćirković), which are based on the analysis of the corpus of the Gurbet Romani variety spoken in Eastern Serbia.

The ICRL conference has been gathering international researchers in Romani linguistics for 30 years. The 14th edition of the conference was organized in 2021 by the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA in Belgrade. During the 15th conference, presentations dealt with various Romani varieties, such as Gurbet Romani in Serbia, Lombardi Sinti, Swedish Finish Kale, Hungaro-Romani, Zargari in Iran, Calon Para-Romani variety of Brazil, Northern Gemer Romani, Sepečides and other Balkan Romani dialects, from the perspective of different linguistic disciplines.
