The international conference “Minority and Endangered Languages in the Multilingual Context of the Balkans”

 The Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies of the Ca’Foscari University of Venice (Italy) organized on December 12-13, 2022 the international conference “Minority and Endangered Languages in the Multilingual Context of the Balkans” (MELMUB). The conference gathered numerous experts from Italy, France, Russia, Albania, Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Serbia, who presented their work on various multilingual communities in the Balkans.

Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković, senior research associate of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, participated in the conference as a keynote speaker, with the paper entitled “What’s in a sign? The rural linguistic landscape of Vojvodina”, while Mirjana Mirić, research associate of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, presented the paper “On the vulnerability of Romani with regard to the type of the community”. Mirjana Mirić’s presentation is the result of her activity at the project “Vulnerable Languages and Linguistic Varieties in Serbia” (VLingS), financed by the Science Fond of the Republic of Serbia, within the framework of the IDEAS program.
