Ognjen Krešić was born in 1985 in Belgrade. He graduated from the Department of History of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade in 2009. During the school year 2009/2010 at the same department, he completed his graduate academic studies and became a Master in History. He began his doctoral academic studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, and continued at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, where in 2021, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled Hilandar Monastery and Bulgarians in the 18th Century: Cultural and Economic Relations. Since 2013, he has been employed at the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA.

Area of ​​research and research topics - history of the Ottoman Empire in the XVIII century: Hilandar Monastery in the XVIII century; social and cultural life and legal position of the Orthodox population in the Ottoman Balkans in the XVIII century.

Projects:

2024– Participant of the project (Trans-)Formation of Identities: Orthodox Christians in the Ottoman Balkans (c.1450–c.1750) (бр. 10932), funded by the Science Fund of the Rebublic of Serbia.

2021– Participant in the project Научна обрада и приређивање османске грађе из фондова Српске Православне Цркве, (Scientific Processing and Preparation of Ottoman Material from the Funds of the Serbian Orthodox Church), funded by Matica Srpska, at the Department of Social Sciences of Matica Srpska.

2019– 2023 Participant in the COST action Islamic Legacy: Narratives East, West, South, North of the Mediterranean (1350–1750) (no. 18129), funded under the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union.

2011–2019 Participant in the project Средњовековно наслеђе Балкана: институције и култура, (Medieval Heritage of the Balkans: Institutions and Culture), funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, at the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA.
