At this year’s (8th) Festival of Science that took place between 4th and 7th December in Belgrade, the results of the investigations of the archaeological site Vinča-Belo Brdo were presented, produced within the project ‘‘Society, spiritual and material culture and communications in prehistory and early history of the Balkans‘‘ directed by Dr Nenad N. Tasić . In collaboration with the Centre for Digital Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, Dr Dragana Filipović (research associate at the Institute for Balkan Studies), Kristina Penezić (research assistant to the Project) and Milorad Ignjatović (curator at the Belgrade City Museum) designed a display entitled Dinner at Vinča; the display communicated the outcomes of archaeobotanical and zooarchaeological analysis at the Vinča site to the wide and diverse audience, and presented the diet of inhabitants of the Neolithic settlement. The display included a reconstruction of the indoor Neolithic food preparation and storage areas (featuring, among other items, replicas of food storage containers, replica of earth oven and some fresh plant food produce), a small exhibition of archaeological remains of plants and animals from Vinča, and the interactive section where visitors had an opportunity to grind wheat grain the ‘prehistoric way’ and analyse ‘archaeobotanical samples’.
