Genealogies of Belgrade Families

05. Nov 2020.

The Institute for Balkan Studies has published in its Special Editions series (no. 146) the book Genealogies of Belgrade Families of its senior research associate, Dr Boris Milosavljevic. The book contains many important genealogies, some of which cover the period from the Great Turkish War (1683–1699) until this day. The reference to Belgrade in the title has been chosen because Belgrade is the capital of Serbia since the beginnings of the modern Serbian state under Karadjordje (1804). Even though particular families, including the ruling ones, had special ties with particular parts of the country or served in different places, the elite strata of society increasingly tied themselves to Belgrade as the capital city. Resulting from decades of research, the monograph is a reliable point of reference and contributes to a better understanding of social and political life in the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia, as well as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and Yugoslavia.
