Conceptualizing Modernity in the Central and Southeastern European Cultures

Ljubodrag P. Ristić PhD, research fellow of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts Institute for Balkan Studies, took part in the 3rd International conference on conceptual history which was held 8–11 October 2014 in Timisoara, Romania, titled Conceptualizing Modernity in the Central and Southeastern European Cultures: Notions, Discourses and Languages. The conference dealt with forms of modernity and its influence on concepts, discourses, language and images of Central and South-Eastern Europe, and a dichotomy in the perception of the local, regional, national and transnational. Lj. Ristić presented the paper “Learning of foreign languages as a process of modernization in 19th-century Serbia”. The conference was organized by the Centre for Advanced Studies in History of the West University of Timisoara and the Historisches Institut der RWTH Aachen.
