The Third Slavic Palaeography Summer School, 27 July – 2 August 2026

Dr Milena Davidović, Research Associate at the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, participated in the Third Slavic Palaeography Summer School, held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 27 July to 2 August 2026. The Summer School was organised by the Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies “Professor Ivan Dujčev” at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, and the SS. Cyril and Methodius National Library.

Dr Milena Davidović delivered the lecture Manuscript Production in the Middle Ages: Materials and Writing Tools and presented the case study The Scribal Workshop of the Serbian Scribe Ioan, highlighting the potential applications of new digital tools in palaeographic research. In her presentation, she highlighted the potential of new digital tools for advancing palaeographic research and demonstrated their application through the analysis of medieval Cyrillic manuscripts. In addition to her lectures, Dr Davidović contributed to the student workshops held during the afternoon sessions, working closely with participants on practical aspects of palaeographical analysis.

The Third Summer School of Slavic Palaeography was attended by 24 participants from Serbia, Bulgaria, Russia, Moldova, France, Poland, and Italy and it was organized within the framework of the research project Development of the Cyrillic Alphabet from the 9th to the 14th Century in the South Slavonic Lands: Research and Digital Presentation (Bulgarian National Science Fund, Grant No. КП-06-Н90/9), of which Dr Milena Davidović is a member.
