Dr Aleksandra Djurić Milovanović Participates in the European Academy of Religion Conference (EuARe 2026)

Dr Aleksandra Djurić Milovanović, Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), participated in the Ninth Annual Conference of the European Academy of Religion (EuARe 2026), held in Rome from 30 June to 2 July 2026 under the general theme “Religion and (In)Equalities.” The conference was hosted by LUISS Guido Carli University.

As part of the “Minority Protestant Network” panel, organized by the international scholarly network of the same name dedicated to the study of Protestant minorities, Dr Djurić Milovanović presented a paper entitled “Recognized but Not Equal: Protestant Minorities and the Ambiguities of State Recognition in Socialist Yugoslavia.” The presentation examined the position of Protestant minorities in socialist Yugoslavia, focusing on the relationship between state regulation, legal registration, and belonging, drawing on both archival and ethnographic research.

In addition to presenting her research, Dr Djurić Milovanović, in her capacity as Network for Dialogue Coordinator at the International Dialogue Centre – KAICIID, moderated the open panel “The ‘Hardware’ and ‘Software’ of Migration: Policy, Ethics, and Interreligious Dialogue in the Western Balkans.” The panel brought together researchers and practitioners working in the fields of migration, public policy, interreligious dialogue, and social cohesion to discuss the role of religious actors and public policies in the Balkans.
