Dr. Nebojša Šuletić participated in the 26th CIÉPO Symposium, held in Varna, Bulgaria

As part of the planned activities of the Viticulture and Winemaking in the Central Balkans (15th–19th Century) project, funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojša Šuletić, research associate of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA participated in the 26th Symposium of the Comité International des Études Pré-Ottomanes et Ottomanes (CIÉPO), held in Varna, Bulgaria, from 23 to 27 June 2026. 
At the symposium, Nebojša Šuletić presented a paper entitled “In Pursuit of Ottoman Vineyards: Viticulture in the Sanjak of Semendire, 1536–1572.” 

The presentation showcased the first results of the project concerning the reconstruction of viticultural production in the Ottoman Sanjak of Semendire based on Ottoman cadastral surveys (tahrir defters) and other archival sources. Particular attention was devoted to the spatial distribution of viticulture, the organization of wine production, and the role of viticulture in the economy of the Sanjak of Semendire during the sixteenth century.
