Book Launch of Monographs by Dr Aleksandra Djurić Milovanović and Dr Mircea Măran Held in Vršac
A promotion of monographs by Dr Mircea Măran and Dr Aleksandra Djurić Milovanović, Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, was held at the General Consulate of Romania in Vršac. The publications focus on the history and identity processes of the Romanian community in the Serbian Banat.
The event presented the co-authored monograph “The Romanian Orthodox Church in the Yugoslav Banat in the Interwar Period (1918–1941)”, as well as the book “Romanians in the Serbian Banat in 1848–1849” by Dr Mircea Măran. These works offer new insights into the historical, institutional, and social dynamics of the Romanian community in Banat, based on extensive archival research and an interdisciplinary approach.
The event was opened by Consul General Anca Corfu, who emphasized the importance of strengthening academic cooperation between Serbia and Romania. The books were discussed by Dr Traian Căcina, historian from Vršac, followed by Dr Ela Cosma, Dr Mirela Andrei Popa, and Dr Remus Câmpeanu from the “George Barițiu” Institute of History of the Romanian Academy in Cluj-Napoca. The speakers highlighted the relevance of these studies for understanding the position of the Romanian community in different historical contexts, as well as their contribution to broader interpretations of regional historical processes. Particular attention was given to the interwar period as a time of significant social and political transformation, in which the Romanian Orthodox Church played a key role in maintaining community identity, education, and social cohesion. In this context, the monograph also opens wider questions about how identities are shaped and negotiated in conditions of shifting political frameworks.
