Ethnographic Institute of SASA Award to Dr Aleksandra Djurić Milovanović

24. Dec 2025.

Dr Aleksandra Djurić Milovanović, Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), is the recipient of this year’s Ethnographic Institute of SASA Award for achievements in the field of ethnological and anthropological research published over the past four years.

The award was granted for the monograph The Untold Journey of the Nazarene Emigration from Yugoslavia to North America (Lanham · Boulder · New York · London: Lexington Books, 2024). Based on many years of archival and field research, the author analyzed the emigration of members of the Nazarene community (Apostolic Christian Church Nazarean) from Yugoslavia to North America during the twentieth century. The book shed light on issues of religious persecution, migration strategies, transnational networks, and the preservation of religious and ethno-cultural identity in the diaspora, contributing to a broader understanding of the relationship between religion, migration, and social change in the Cold War and post–Cold War context.

The award ceremony was held on 23 December at the premises of the Ethnographic Institute of SASA, and the award was presented by Dr Branko Banović, Director of the Ethnographic Institute of SASA.
