Scientific Conference “Fundamentals and Advances in Balkan Linguistics II”

On 31 October 2025, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade and the Institute for the Study of Antiquity and Classical Heritage organized the second edition of the international scientific conference “Fundamentals and Advances in Balkan Linguistics” (FABL). Four researchers of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA took part in it: Mirjana Mirić, Senior Research Associate, and Svetlana Ćirković, Principal Research Fellow, presented the co-authored paper “Serbian loan verb adaptation in Gurbet Romani: Evidence from corpus and experimental research” (co-authored with Marko Simonović from Graz and Bojana Ristić from Belgrade), Danilo Savić, Research Assistant and member of the FABL Organizing Committee, gave a talk titled “Dalmatae ‘people of the valley’”, and Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković, Principal Research Fellow, presented the paper “A newcomer to the Balkans? Chinese in the linguistic landscape of Serbia” (co-authored with Teodora Todorić Milićević from Belgrade). The conference gathered more than 30 participants from Europe, and provided a forum for high-quality research in all domains of Balkan linguistics.
