Scientific Conference “Equality through affirmative action”

The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), the Board for the Study of the Life and Customs of the Roma SASA, the Board for the Study of Minorities and Human Rights SASA, and the Commissioner for Protection of Equality of the Republic of Serbia organized the scientific conference titled “Equality through affirmative action”. The conference was held on October 24, 2025, at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade. Papers were presented within three sections: Affirmative actions in the field of national minorities, Affirmative actions: gender equality and persons with disabilities, and Implementation of affirmative actions concerning Serbs outside Serbia (Hungary, Romania, Croatia, North Macedonia). Mirjana Mirić, Senior Research Associate of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, participated in the conference with a paper titled “The status of language in affirmative actions aimed at the Roma”, which was presented within the first section. The paper is the result of the project “Vulnerable Languages and Linguistic Varieties in Serbia” (VLingS), which was funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia in the period 2022–2024.
