Dr Ovidiu Olar delivered a lecture titled Contested Identities: Eastern Christianity between Rome and Constantinople
As part of the project (Trans-)Formation of Identities: Orthodox Christians in the Ottoman Balkans (c.1450–c.1750), financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia with the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts as the host institution, on 21 October 2025 Dr Ovidiu Olar delivered a lecture titled Contested Identities: Eastern Christianity between Rome and Constantinople (First Half of the 17th Century). Dr Olar is the principal investigator of the ERC Starting Grant Orthodoxies and Politics. The Religious Reforms of Mid-17th Century in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (No 950287). He is employed at the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the “Nicolae Iorga” Institute of History of the Romanian Academy.
