General, Balkan and Slavic linguistics: Synchrony, diachrony, areal studies. Conference in honour of the 60th anniversary of Prof. Andrey N. Sobolev

 On 18–19 September 2025, the Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg organized an international conference entitled General, Balkan and Slavic Linguistics: Synchrony, diachrony, areal studies. The conference was held in honor of the 60th anniversary of Professor Andrej Sobolev, with many of his long-term collaborators accepting the invitation to participate. The Institute for Balkan Studies SASA has maintained successful cooperation with Prof. Sobolev for decades, reflected in numerous joint projects, co-authored publications, and participation in international conferences, as well as in collaborative work on linguistic databases. Prof. Sobolev has been a guest of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA on several occasions, where he had the opportunity to present his wide-ranging research results important for Balkan and Slavic linguistics.

Mirjana Mirić, Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, participated in the conference and presented a paper entitled Complementizers in Gurbet Romani within the section on Balkan linguistics (online). She has previously collaborated with Prof. Sobolev on the projects (Dis-)entangling traditions on the Central Balkans: Performance and perception and Atlas of the Balkan Linguistic Area (ABLA) Online (https://abla.cnrs.fr/), and they have co-authored several scientific articles.
