International symposium "Engraving Universal Values: Prometheus Symposium on Digital Epigraphy and Heritage Representation"

From 18 to 20 September, the international symposium Engraving Universal Values: Prometheus Symposium on Digital Epigraphy and Heritage Representation was held in Hall 2 of the Palace of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade. The event was organised within the framework of the PROMETHEUS – Promoting Universal Values through Digital Epigraphy and Cultural Heritage project, supported by the European Commission under the Creative Europe programme, with the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA as one of the partners.

The symposium brought together researchers and experts from several European countries – primarily from the countries of the project partners – Serbia, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, as well as from Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Montenegro. The topics covered Greek and Roman epigraphy and philology, contemporary approaches in digital humanities and classical philology, and the preservation and presentation of cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on the ways in which ancient inscriptions convey universal human values. The event was held in a hybrid format, enabling active participation both in person and online.

As part of the opening session, Dr Dragana Nikolić presented the project in the lecture “The Prometheus Project: Bridging Past, Present and Future through Epigraphy and Universal Values”.
