Legacies Pro Anima. The Wills of the Citizens of Kotor 1326–1337

The Special Editions series of the Institute for Balkan Studies, Serbian Academy of Sciences of Arts, now includes the book Legacies Pro Anima: The Wills of the Citizens of Kotor 1326–1337 of its researcher Dr Valentina Zivkovic. This study, the first of the kind in Serbian scholarship, offers a typological classification and analysis of testamentary gifts for the salvation of the soul using the sample of 74 wills of Kotor citizens drawn up between 1326 and 1337. These legacies, classified into four categories – commemorative, charitable, ad pias causas and pro male ablatis – provide the author with a basis for an in-depth analysis of a variety of medieval phenomena.
