The 2017 Vuk Foundation (VF) Award for Scholarship was presented to Dr Boris Milosavljević, Senior Fellow of the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), at the ceremony that took place on 28 May 2018. The decision to bestow the Award on Dr Milosavljević for his book Slobodan Jovanović. Theory, published by the Institute for Balkan Studies, had been made unanimously by the VF Awards Committee composed of Prof. Slobodan Grubačić, Corresponding Member of the SASA, President; and members Dinko Davidov, Member of the SASA, Nada Milošević Djordjević, Member of the SASA, Predrag Piper, Member of the SASA, Prof. Boško Suvajdžić, Prof. Ljubinko Radenković, Deputy President of the VF Assembly, and Dr Miloje Vasić.

At the award presentation ceremony, the public filling the VF Hall to capacity was addressed by Professors Grubačić and Radenković. Prof. Grubačić noted: “The book of Boris Milosavljević demonstrates the purpose and significance of such synthetic monographs. It also shows that even an analysis of Serbian politics and literary criticism, its achievements, fervours and wanderings can reveal completely new and, for the history of science, precious horizons of research; that this long suppressed or concealed “darkened side” has, in fact, long awaited a scholar as inspired as this.” Prof. Radenković emphasized that the book sheds light on the life and work of Slobodan Jovanović, one of the most important intellectuals of the first half of the 20th century.

The award was presented by Dr Miodrag Maticki, President of the VF Assembly, and Ljuba Djokić, Deputy Mayor of Loznica.
